Your semester grade is usually a blend of your ongoing coursework (homework, quizzes, midterms) and your final exam. If your final is worth 20% and your current grade is 85%, then a 70% on the final would give you a semester grade of (85 × 0.8) + (70 × 0.2) = 82%.
Many schools also average two quarter or term grades into a final semester grade — for example, Term 1 (45%) + Term 2 (45%) + Final Exam (10%). Check your school's specific breakdown, since it varies by district and by whether you're using a college grading scale or a K-12 one.
